Who is responsible

If you subscribe to the newsletter

The form stores your email address, along with the page you subscribed from, the page you first landed on, any campaign tags in the link that brought you, the referring site, and your browser user-agent string. The campaign and referrer details are only stored if you accepted analytics; without that, the signup records your email and the page you signed up from.

The basis is your consent, given by submitting the form. You can withdraw it at any time by asking me to delete the record, and every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.

If you send an enquiry

The enquiry form stores your name, email address, company website, business name if you give one, your message, and the topic you selected, plus the same attribution details described above.

The basis is the steps taken at your request before entering into a contract. I keep enquiries for as long as the working relationship or its follow-up justifies, and delete them on request.

Analytics and session replay

Until you accept analytics, the site counts readers without storing anything on your device and without building a profile of you: no cookie, no browser storage, no persistent identifier. That measurement tells me which articles hold attention and where readers stop.

If you accept, PostHog and Microsoft Clarity additionally set cookies and record your session — the pages you view, where you scroll, where you click, and how you move through a page. Recordings are used to find confusing layouts and broken flows. You can withdraw consent at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer, which stops the recording and clears what was stored.

The basis for the anonymous tier is my legitimate interest in knowing whether what I publish is read. The basis for everything beyond it is your consent.

Server logs

The hosting platform records requests to the site, including IP address, timestamp, and the page requested. These logs exist to keep the site available and to investigate abuse or errors. The basis is legitimate interest, and they are kept for a short, rolling period.

Where your data goes

The processors below act on my instructions. Several are established in the United States, which means your data is transferred outside the EEA; those transfers rely on the standard contractual clauses in each provider’s data processing agreement.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the data held about you, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how it is used, and receive it in a portable format. Write to the address above and I will answer within one month.

Changes to this notice

If what the site collects changes materially, this page changes with it and the consent banner asks again rather than assuming an old answer still stands.
